We love it when we recieve updates and pics of the animals. It is lovely to see what they are getting up to. Poppy (the black and white terrier) here on holiday with her friends in these pics, her new mum and dad have written to say that she is a joy to own and a much loved member of the family, who loves camping in the summer! We are all really happy to see her doing so well.

Pets at home come to the rescue!
Earlier this year we helped in the rescue of over 100 Welsh Hill Ponies. Unfortunately the market for these ponies has diminished in the recession and although these ponies were sold, the buyer decided they did not want them, which only left them to be put them to sleep. This was just a massive waste of life. A huge S.O.S call was put out and the network of rescue centres across the U.K headed by Shy Lowen horse and pony sanctuary went in to action. Everyone squeezed some in to their already packed rescue centres. We took 4 boys, they were wild, I mean we have dealt with wild ponies before but these guys had seen nothing, they had lived on mountain there whole life and the first time they came in to contact with any humans was when they were rounded up off the hills, brought down to the auction house, put in a crush, micro chipped, pass ported and some had ear tags put in, as you can imagine in there eyes we were just danger!
The boys taught us so much, however first of all they needed treatment, two of them came with chest infections due to stress and costs start to mount up when the vet has to sedate the animal before they can examine it. Then they all had to be castrated which is around £150 -£200 depending on the size of the animal. This is where Pets at home came to our rescue; they offered to pay for the castration of the horses, so that we could concentrate our funds on getting them to a re-home able state. We just would not have been able to do it without them.
Pets at home also helped us to get them to The Intelligent Horsemanship centre in Whitney, this is where the ponies all taught us a thing or to, however I shall leave that for the next instalment in our news!

Dodger
I thought you might like to see a few pictures of Dodger getting settled in with us. There are some pics of him enjoying his time in the park, which he absolutely loves! It’s always nap time when he gets back though (for him, not us). We get very jealous, he looks so comfy snuggled up in his bed or having the odd cheeky nap on the sofa when he thinks we aren’t around.
The one in the car is him about to go to his weekly training class, we have been going for four weeks now and this week he was much calmer around the other dogs. He loves the puppies there though and is always ready for playtime. He has met one or two doggie friends in the park too. The trainer there has commented a few times about what a lovely happy dog he is.
He is very smart, and we are loving getting to know him. We have tried to get him interested in toys much to his disgust as he doesn’t seem to ‘get’ them. However, we got a couple of kongs and stuff them with his fav treats including jerky and fish4dogs salmon mousse, and he is getting pretty expert at emptying them after some unsure beginnings. We noticed he shows quite an interest in birds and a friend bought him a honking duck dog toy and that seems to be a winner based on the three times it’s been out so far!
He is a wonderful dog and we love having him as part of the family. Hopefully he loves being part of the family too, he certainly seems to be pretty settled. Everyone who has met him loves him – what’s not to love?!
You’ll probably notice in the photo that his ID tag is the same style red heart that you had on him – we thought it looked so cute on him that we bought the same one.
Take care
Bobby, Jonathan & Dodger
