Lily’s Lifeline Voucher Journey!

Lily came in to the rescue when her partner discovered he was allergic to her! Lily’s previous owner had also struggled to manage Lily’s own allergies. The who situation was an allergic nightmare!

When Lily arrived she was taken to our vets for a thorough consultation, here at the rescue we have dealt with many allergic cats and Lily did not present like normal! Her allergies presented in painful itchy eyes and mouth along with an upset tummy. Poor Lily was really suffering.

We had a long consultation with the vet and our first port of call was a full set of bloods to see if anything significant showed, annoyingly nothing! So we decided to a food elimination trial, to see if we could work out her trigger.
Thanks to the Pets Foundation and their Pets At Home Lifeline Vouchers, we were able to purchase all of the expensive types of specialist veterinary diets to trial on her. This came to hundreds of pounds and was a huge help.

The food trial resolved her tummy issues and had reduced the inflammation in her mouth, however her painful eyes were still giving her grief and she was so depressed. So she was referred to Optivet to see if we could work out the cause. I think she had every test that could possibly done on the eye’s and as you can see from her picture, I think she was planning on murdering me!! lol
Once again there was nothing glaringly obvious, so we had to start on an courses of treatment to eliminate known conditions that just don’s show up on tests. These treatments had so many side effects that made Lily so poorly and down in the dumps.
Once again our Pets At Home Lifeline Vouchers saved the day, we went and brought every distraction toy that we could to keep Lily amused and distract her from her awful situation. It really helped and she enjoyed it! especially the catnip toys!
Being able to use these Vouchers is a god send, as it means we can concentrate our funds on the vets fee’s to get her better.

Sadly the treatment at Optivet was just not working, so they referred us to a dermatologist at Lumbry Park! Once again she is not showing normal symptoms and nothing is like anyone has seen before. so we started on a treatment, this mad a huge improvement, her eyes are no longer painful, however she still has the discharge and itchy mouth, so back again and we have started on a new treatment, so far so good and we have no painful eyes, a settled tummy, her mouth seems less itchy and although we still have discharge from the eyes it doesn’t seem to be causing an issue!!

We are finally hopeful that we will get Lovely Lily well enough to be rehomed! Lily will have to remain on a special diet and her allergy medication, but thankfully this is not incredibly expensive.
Little Lily has been a trooper, she has put up with so much, so many medications that have made her so ill and she has only had the odd days where she has told me to bugger off!! lol

So every time you spend at Pets At Home and scan your VIP card, you are automatically helping animals just like Lily!

Thank you so much, we really do appreciate it! xxxx
