🐾 Meet Hercules 🐾
14½-year-old Domestic Shorthaired Grey & White | Neutered Male

Hercules came into our care after his much-loved owner sadly passed away. His family did everything they could to look after him, but when Hercules developed a thyroid tumour while they were also coping with their loss, they made the incredibly difficult and selfless decision to let us find him the loving retirement home he deserves.

When Hercules arrived, he had been diagnosed with a benign (non-cancerous) thyroid tumour. Although the condition was well controlled with lifelong medication, it would have required treatment every day and blood tests every six months. We knew this could make it difficult for such a wonderful older gentleman to find a home, so thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we were able to fundraise for a partial thyroidectomy.

The surgery was a complete success and has fully resolved his thyroid condition. There is a small possibility that the remaining thyroid gland could become overactive in the future, but this typically occurs years later. Given Hercules’ age, if it were ever to happen, it would simply be managed with medication. As with any senior cat, adopters should be prepared for the possibility of increased veterinary care as he grows older.

Hercules truly is one in a million. He is one of the friendliest cats you could ever hope to meet, greeting everyone with an endless purr and plenty of affection. He loves human company and would happily spend his days curled up beside you or following you around the house.

Because of his age, we feel Hercules would be happiest in a calm, quiet home without very young children. He isn’t keen on dogs, but he gets on beautifully with other cats. Ideally, we’d love him to either be the only pet in the home, soaking up all the attention, or live with another laid-back senior cat who will let him enjoy a peaceful retirement. After everything he has been through, we want his transition into his forever home to be as gentle and stress-free as possible.

Hercules has happily lived as both an indoor and outdoor cat. He has never been one to wander far from home, so he would be equally content living as a house cat or having access to a safe outdoor space.

If you’re looking for a loving companion who asks for little more than a warm bed, gentle fuss and someone to love, Hercules could be your perfect match.

Approximate Monthly Cost of Owning Hercules

As Hercules is a senior cat with a pre-existing medical history, it is unlikely that insurance will cover any future health conditions related to his thyroid or age. Rather than paying expensive insurance premiums that may exclude much of what he needs, we recommend setting aside around £50 per month in a dedicated savings account to help cover any unexpected veterinary treatment in the future.

  • Vet care plan (vaccinations, flea and worm treatment): £16.99 per month
  • Good quality senior food: Approximately £45 per month
  • Cat litter: Approximately £10 per month
  • Veterinary savings: £50 per month

Estimated total monthly cost: £121.99

Hercules is fully vaccinated, FIV and FeLV negative, neutered, microchipped, and up to date with his flea and worm treatments. He will also leave with 5 weeks’ free insurance.

If you think you could offer this wonderful gentleman the loving retirement home he deserves, we’d love to hear from you. Please email [email protected]
